Double Exposure with MOTHERBOARDS

Mboarda Mboardb Mboardc Mboardd Mboarde Mboardf Mboardg Mboardh Mboardi Double Exposure with MOTHERBOARDS was shot in Palm Springs and Los Angeles in April of 2015.  The Motherboards were acquired in Ventura the year prior at a downtown thrift shop.  Further conversation about communication relics.  I once again used my Canon 620 35mm film camera with 800sp Kodak Portra film.

These shots were taken with my vintage 1980s Canon EOS 620 35mm film camera.  (Thanks Daniel!!!)  What’s extra special about this model is that it has a built in function that allows for up to 9 exposures per shot.  For this round of images, which I began shooting in West Hollywood at the annual Halloween Carnival on Santa Monica Blvd. and ended in the Coachella Valley Desert, I shot both double & triple exposures using Kodak 800 speed Portra film.

Cross Processed Double Exposure

With this round of Double Exposures I shot a roll of slide film and had it Cross Processed with C-41 chemicals.

Super saturation alert!

I used a Canon FT 35mm camera to shoot these shots.

They’re a combo of images taken in Palm Springs and Los Angeles in the spring and summer of 2014.  The shells in the 3rd photo are from an awesome art car I happened upon in Palm Springs —>>> http://www.evolvearts.com/shellcar.html + a piece of art that our friend Troy made.

Visited the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles and downtown L.A. near the Music Center for the other pics.

This latest round of Double Exposures created some serious Color Explosions!!!!!!!

I used 160 speed Kodak Portra film shot at 320 with the first round of exposures shot using a vintage Canon FT 35mm camera and the 2nd round with a vintage Pentax K1000 35mm camera. —>>>

First round of subjects found at The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles, with an emphasis on the butterflies in their annual Butterfly Pavilion.

Second round of subjects shot in both Palm Springs and Los Angeles.

The final 2 images were some of several shot with the idea of freedom in mind.  If butterflies are free, then what, or who, is the opposite of a butterfly?

Halloween Double Exposed 2013

This Halloween I ventured down the boulevard to the West Hollywood Halloween Carnaval & shot the first round of this double exposed 35mm roll of film.  Two days later I braved the Spider Pavilion at The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles to shoot the second round.  Once again, I used my trusty, dusty Pentax K1000 35mm camera, this time using Kodak Portra 400 speed film shot at 800.  It was a great learning experience & I’m loving these shots!!!

Three for Three ; )))

This August & September, on my third go round with double exposing a roll of film with my Pentax K-1000 35mm camera, I used 160 speed film & shot it at 320.  This time the extent of the winding created a triple shot effect because the overlap cut each frame perfectly in half instead of like in my 1st two attempts when the overlap was off center.  The vertical shots are cut to just use a double layer, but the horizontals show the triptych effect.

Nature Layers taken in Laguna Beach, CA at Agate Beach, Thousand Steps Beach & Shaw’s Cove.

Graff & Wheatpaste Art shot on Melrose Ave. & in an alley west of LaBrea Ave. in Los Angeles, CA.

Industrial layer in the 2nd shot above taken on the road driving past an oil refinery on the PCH.

Giant lamp in the 5th shot above taken in the lot of the soon to be demolished Trader Joe’s parking lot on Santa Monica Blvd.

Hotel shots taken at the legendary Hotel Brevoort on Lexington Ave. just west of Vine St. in Hollywood, CA.  This was once the residence of Elizabeth Short, ‘The Black Dahlia’.  Above the entryway it reads “Joyously Enter Here”.  —>>>
